Pumpkin Raitha

ingredients
tender pumpkin-1/2kilo
curds-as required
turmeric powder-1/4tsp
pepper powder-1tsp
salt-to taste

for seasoning
oil
chilly flakes
mustard
curry leaves
Method
1.wash the pumpkin and cut into pieces..do not peel the skin..



2.add turmeric,salt and pepper powder on top of the pumpkin and add a very little water and let it cook on medium flame until done..dont allow to overcook..




3.season it with mustard,chilly flakes and curry leaves..


4.let it cool for sometime..add thick curds and stir well..


this pumpkin raitha is served with rice or chapathi..

There is a very beautiful song in Tamil regarding this PUMPKIN.

It was taught to me when I was studying First Std. during 1955-56. Still I remember that. I am reproducing it now:

பறங்கிக்காயைப் பறித்து

பட்டையெல்லாம் சீவி

பொடிப்பொடியாய் நறுக்கி

உப்புக் காரம் போட்டு

எண்ணெயிலே தாளித்து

இன்பமாக ருசிப்போம்.

இன்னும் கொஞ்சம் கேட்போம்

தந்தால் சிரிப்போம்

தராவிட்டால் அழுவோம்!

Yes ... Leela. It is a very good Tamil rhyme for small children.

It took me to my childhood days.
Still I remember that poem.
