Roasted Coconut Chutney Podi

This is a traditional and inevitable side dish to be served in all our functions..

urad dal-1cup
coriander seeds-1/4 cup
dry red chillies-20 to 25
tamarind-a small lemon size
salt-approx.4 tsp
curry leaves-10 bunches

1.roast both dals seperately in a wok till it becomes slightly brownish..

2.powder both the roasted dals in a mixie and keep aside.. a wok put grated coconut, red chillies and coriander seeds and roast it..

4.when it is half roasted add curry leaves and tamarind ball and roast again well till aroma comes and it reaches to light brown..

5.put the whole things into a mixie and grind till it gets a masala consistency(dont use water)..stop grinding when the oil oozes out..

6.pour this masala in a wok and add the dal powder and salt little by little and mix well..

7.roasted coconut chutney podi is ready to have either with hot rice and curds or with hot kanji(rice porridge)..this podi can also be used as a dip for idlys and dosas..
